How It Works
An Off-Grid solar system directly powers the electrical items you wish to operate. Rather than connecting to your utility grid, these systems rely on batteries to store the solar energy produced during the day. Off-Grid systems offer mobility, and can supply you with power in places where electrical utilities can’t.
These systems use a charge controller to regulate the Direct Current (DC) coming from the solar panels to the battery bank. An inverter then converts the DC to Alternating Current (AC), the type of electricity most electronics operate on.
GRID-TIED
These systems are tied to the utility grid through a two-way AC meter typically installed for residential, commercial, or utility applications and do NOT provide back-up power in the event of an outage. CLICK HERE to learn more.
GRID-INTERACTIVE
These systems act similarly to Grid-Tied, as they are tied to the grid. However, these systems can provide backup power in the event of an outage and also help with Time of Use billing structures. CLICK HERE to learn more.
OFF-GRID
These systems require battery banks, as they are completely separate from the grid and operate on DC power. An inverter is needed to power AC electronics.
